About The Position

To assist, support, and work closely with teachers, administrators, and other team members in providing educational benefits for students. This role involves implementing educational programs, behavioral programming, and providing personal and safety assistance to students. The Intensive Behavior Paraprofessional will also foster student independence, participate in meetings, and maintain a clean and organized learning environment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED required
  • Paraprofessional Educator License issued by the Illinois State Board of Education
  • Experience required in working with individuals who engage in challenging behaviors, including but not limited to, physical aggression, self-injurious behavior, elopement, and property destruction.
  • Upon acceptance, must be able to pass nonviolent crisis intervention classes as assigned.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in education, human services, or disability related field
  • Professional Educator License/Professional Educator License with Stipulations
  • Ability to perform CPR and be certified in Advanced CPI.

Responsibilities

  • Provides instructional support to assigned students to implement educational programs as determined by the teacher/resource team/administrator.
  • Constructs/ modifies/adapts instructional materials/games/displays/learning centers.
  • Works with students to operate computer and supportive technology.
  • Supervises the student’s completion of educational activities as outlined in the IEP, observes and records data.
  • Maintains records and files relevant to assignment- anecdotal notes, written observations, accurate education folders.
  • Implements behavioral programming as determined by team.
  • Efficiently tracks individual student data throughout the school day both electronically and by hand (pen/pencil).
  • Provides personal and safety assistance to students.
  • Communicates and shares ideas and concerns with Assistant Principal and assigned teacher.
  • Actively participates in meetings as required.
  • Assists with critical daily activities such as classroom transition times, mealtimes, and toileting.
  • Supervises students as required in classroom, media room, cafeteria/multi-purpose room, sensory room, gym playground field trips.
  • Fosters student independence.
  • Demonstrates the ability to use techniques and strategies taught and trained during times of student crisis.
  • Promoting active engagement throughout the class day.
  • Works collaboratively as a member of the team.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Help to maintain a clean and organized learning environment.
  • Sanitize all surfaces, equipment, and classroom toys.
  • Maintains American Heart Association certification in First Aid and CPR.
  • Successfully completes Little City Foundation required training, re-training, and any additional training as required by Little City Foundation policies and practices, or as assigned by his or her immediate supervisor.
  • Must complete and pass RBT training assigned by Little City Foundation.
