About The Position

Avon Elementary School is looking for a caring, dependable, and patient individual to serve as a long-term substitute Special Education Paraprofessional. This position provides an opportunity to work closely with students and staff while supporting students with a variety of learning, behavioral, social, and daily living needs. The Special Education Paraprofessional works under the direction of the principal and guidance of special education and general education teachers.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minnesota driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility.
  • Ability to work effectively with students with a variety of learning and behavioral needs.
  • Strong communication, patience, flexibility, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to follow student IEPs, behavioral plans, district procedures, and staff direction.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working with children or students with special needs is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Providing academic and classroom support to students individually and in small groups.
  • Reinforcing skills and concepts introduced by licensed staff.
  • Supporting students in accessing and participating in classroom activities and assignments.
  • Adapting or modifying assignments under the direction of special education or general education staff.
  • Supporting students with social skills, sensory needs, and navigating classroom and school settings.
  • Implementing student IEP and behavioral plans as directed by licensed staff.
  • Reinforcing positive behaviors and assisting with de-escalation and behavioral support.
  • Assisting students with daily living skills and mobility needs, as appropriate.
  • Collecting and monitoring student progress and required data.
  • Collaborating with teachers and other staff regarding student needs and progress.
  • Providing supervision and support during various school activities and routines.
  • Following district procedures and maintaining a safe and supportive environment for students.
