About The Position

The position provides direct care for students with behavioral difficulties by providing instruction as assigned, behavior management and preparation of classroom materials to students, and support to teachers as directed by the building administrator. Responsible for maintaining records and data to support a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS). Implementation of behavior intervention plans and coordination with MTSS team members is essential.

Requirements

• High school diploma or its recognized equivalent (GED) and; two years of study at an institution of higher education a (72 quarter hours); or obtain an associate’s degree (or higher); or a passing score on a state or local assessment.
• Previous work experience that shows candidate’s leadership ability in developing, implementing, and monitoring behavior interventions for students.
• Training in crisis intervention, suicide prevention upon hire.
• Training within six (6) months of hire in At-Risk Student, Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS), and Multi-Tier Support System of Supports (MTSS).
• Behavior interventions to support high quality instruction for all students and to meet student’s individual needs.
• Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
• Ability to observe, monitor, and evaluate student performance.
• Excellent communication and human relation skills.
• Skilled in using data to monitor and change intervention strategies for students to achieve established goals.
• Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral communication.
• Ability to take initiative, work independently, and effectively manage multiple projects with conflicting deadlines and/or priorities.
• Ability to maintain confidential material and information and exercise sound decision making skills.
• Proficient knowledge and experience operating a personal computer and applications in word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentational software.
• Ability to work with diverse cultures.
• Ability to learn skills of verbal de-escalation, restraint techniques and behavior management.
• Ability to learn and apply District policies and procedures.
• Background check and fingerprinting.
• At-risk students, PBIS, and MTSS within one year of hire.
• First aid and CPR certification for employee’s assigned to the health room and transportation.
• Right Response certification is required for this position.

Responsibilities

• Implementing a behavior intervention plan as outlined by the MTSS team and for training classroom staff to generalize and sustain the plan.
• Collaborating with administrators and teachers that work with Tier II and Tier III students to address behavioral issues that impact academic achievement.
• Planning, providing, monitoring, and adjusting targeted behavior experiences for qualifying Tier II and Tier III students under the supervision of a counselor, dean, administrator, or teacher.
• Demonstrating competency in behavioral intervention skills and assisting with preparation for and implementation of behavior management techniques.
• Managing, analyzing, and utilizing student data.
• Working with building instructional staff, counselors/psychologists, building and district administrators, other staff members, parents, and the community to ensure appropriate educational services.
• Delivering appropriate targeted intervention activities and establishing specific, planned goals.
• Providing evidence-based Tier II and Tier III behavioral interventions for students in their school settings to support academic progress as identified by the MTSS Team.
• Following a behavior intervention schedule to implement Social Emotional student support as identified by the MTSS Team.
• Monitoring student responses to intervention systems and reporting this data to the MTSS Team.
• Providing behavioral management support to classroom teachers and other educators as identified by the MTSS Team.
• Implementing individual intervention plans under the supervision of the MTSS team.
• Attending district level intervention meetings and professional development as required to remain current on best practices.
• Performing other duties as assigned.
