Wediko School is a residential treatment center located on 450 lakefront acres in Hillsborough, New Hampshire, providing therapeutic and educational services for middle and high school aged youth facing significant social-emotional, behavioral, and academic challenges. Paraprofessionals/Assistant Teachers at Wediko School offer rehabilitative assistance to students in the classroom, along with supervision and guidance in the milieu environment. They collaborate closely with classroom and special education teachers to model positive behavior, reinforce classroom structures, and facilitate student learning. Additionally, they communicate with dorm staff, supervisors, and school personnel to ensure the safety and structure of both residential and academic programs. Paraprofessionals assist teachers in creating an environment with clear and consistent standards for classroom behavior and routines for managing students' independent and group work. They also help monitor student learning progress and maintain performance records. The role involves establishing and modeling appropriate relationships with students, assisting teachers and program coordinators in managing student behavior within school and classroom structures, and actively participating in supervision and an assistant teacher academy. In the therapeutic milieu, they provide a nurturing, safe, and consistent environment for students in the dorm setting, lead or assist in group transitions, maintain dorm structures during morning, breakfast, and lunchtime routines, and participate in the dorm weekend on-call and overnight rotation. The role also includes providing safe transportation for students and supporting school and dorm teams.
