About The Position
This position involves assisting a teacher with students in the classroom, as well as supervising students in various settings such as the lunchroom, playground, and during bus transitions. The role requires supporting students with daily tasks, including feeding, toileting, and self-help skills, and assisting with the physical positioning of non-ambulatory students. The position is for 7 hours per day, including a 30-minute unpaid lunch, over 191 days per year, which includes one day of CPI training. Candidates must meet age requirements (18 for Pre-K to 5th grade, 20 for 6th to 12th grade) and possess specific licensure or the ability to obtain it.
Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age for Pre-K through 5th Grade or 20 years of age or over for 6th Grade through 12th Grade
- Must have an Educator Licensure with Stipulation or valid Illinois Teaching Licensure or 90-day sub licensure
- Must have high school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to perform all job-related functions
- Ability to understand and follow verbal or written directions
- Ability to communicate and maintain good working relationships with other employees and general staff of the assigned school
- Must take CPI course and refresher courses
- Must pass pre-placement agility/fit for duty exam with MOHA
- Must pass TB test

Responsibilities
- Assist teacher with the students in the classroom
- Assist teacher with supervision of students in the lunchroom, on the playground, and when proceeding to and from the buses
- Use copying machine with teacher supervision to make materials for the classroom
- Assist with feeding/toileting of students requiring total care
- Assist with lifting and positioning of non-ambulatory students
- Assist student with self help skills
- Perform other duties as assigned
