About The Position

The Inpatient Paramedic provides direct patient care under the guidance of a RN or designated healthcare professional in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations, and within policies, procedures, and guidelines of the organization. This role also performs the ED Tech Advanced role, which includes additional patient care and tasks. The position requires completing patient rounding, assisting with patient instructions and discharge, administering medication safely, providing 1:1 patient safety companion service as needed, acting as a liaison between patient and nurse, providing high-level customer service, and accurate, precise, timely documentation. The role involves participating in handoff reports, performing delegated tasks after competency validation, collecting data, completing patient screenings, and promoting quality and safety by seeking to continually improve processes and systems. The paramedic must demonstrate the ability to work independently, problem-solve, and resolve conflict under stress, while maintaining knowledge of policies and procedures.

Requirements

BLS Basic Life Support (preferred upon hire, must obtain from approved source prior to direct patient care)
ACLS – AHA (Advanced Cardiac Life Support - American Heart Association) (preferred upon hire, must obtain from approved source prior to direct patient care)
PALS – AHA (Pediatric Advanced Life Support - American Heart Association) (preferred upon hire, must obtain from approved source prior to direct patient care)
Current paramedic-level certification (required)
High School Diploma or GED (required)
Successful completion of a Paramedic program at the certificate or associates degree level (required)

2 Years of Paramedic experience (preferred)

Responsibilities

Provides basic patient care and tasks including, but not limited to, care and comfort, vital sign measurement, personal care and hygiene, assists with mobility, performs lab draws, ECG’s, basic wound care, and other unit-based specialty duties under the direction of an RN or Physician based on state and market guidelines.
Performs the ED Tech Advanced role, which includes additional patient care and tasks including, but not limited to colostomy care, IV insertion, IV removal and IV site care, transport on monitor, identifies need and initiates CPR, foley catheter placement, identifies patients in crises or decline and alerts RN for further assessments, and other unit-based specialty duties base on state and department guidelines under the direction of an RN.
Completes patient rounding as assigned.
Assists with giving patient instructions and discharge.
Administers medication in a safe manner consistent with the State Scope of Practice and Organization Policies and Procedures per market guidelines.
Provides 1:1 patient safety companion service as needed.
Acts as liaison between patient and nurse to report changes and concerns.
Provides high level customer service to all patients, patient's families, community providers, visitors, and employees.
Provides accurate, precise, timely documentation as applicable to patient care.
Participates in handoff report of pertinent information regarding patient and departmental needs upon arrival and when leaving.
Performs delegated tasks once competency has been validated.
Collects data, within scope.
Completes patient screenings as applicable.
Promotes quality and safety by seeking to continually improve the processes and systems to enhance patient care delivery.
Demonstrates the ability to work independently, problem solve, and be able to resolve conflict while working under considerable stress.
Maintains knowledge of policies and procedures.
