About The Position

Orlando Health’s Freestanding Emergency Department, opening in spring 2025, is experiencing high patient volume and is expanding its ED nursing team. The Paramedic will provide and document individualized patient care, including patient safety, assessments in collaboration with the supervising RN or RT, triage, airway management, IV access and fluid administration, ECG interpretation, dysrhythmia recognition, oxygen delivery, and assisting with orthopedic equipment under physician supervision. The Orlando Health Emergency Room – Waterford Lakes is part of Orlando Health’s network, offering 24/7 emergency care with expert staff, diagnostic imaging, and a full-service laboratory.

Requirements

  • Successfully completed a Paramedic program.
  • Current certification as a Paramedic (PMD) in the State of Florida renewed every 2 years.
  • Maintains current BLS/Healthcare provider certification for healthcare providers.
  • Maintains current ACLS certification.

Nice To Haves

  • If appropriate, obtain and maintain PALS certification within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers patient care requiring advanced skills and judgment in the Emergency Department, Critical Care or Respiratory Department settings as directed by the appropriate Medical Director for specialty to include protocol orders or guidelines within approved current Paramedic competency.
  • Communicates appropriate information regarding the patient’s condition to the Registered Nurse, Respiratory Therapist, and ED or Critical Care, Pulmonary providers or their designee and documents findings of care provided according to established guidelines.
  • Provides for the physical comfort and safety of patients, visitors, and members of the health care team including infection control and appropriate handling of hazardous materials.
  • Prioritizes and sequences work activities and delivery of medical care to patients that ensures the patient’s comfort, safety, and progress toward established goals.
  • Administers limited medications safely within the defined education guidelines and competencies.
  • Facilitates patient movement within the department and through the facility, proactively supporting timely admissions, discharges, and transfers.
