About The Position

Under the supervision of a licensed physician medical director and a manager, the ED Technician II performs and assists with a variety of direct and indirect patient care activities. These include assistance with activities of daily living, comfort care and nutritional support, and performance of selected diagnostic and therapeutic tasks and procedures as directed. Indirect patient care activities include maintaining a clean safe environment, ensuring adequate inventory of supplies and equipment, and data collection as pertinent to the patient population.

Requirements

  • Current EMT-P/Paramedic certification/licensure in Virginia
  • AHA ACLS Certification
  • Successful completion of an accredited EMT-P/Paramedic course.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care within the scope of practice of an AEMT, EMT-Intermediate, Paramedic – or MMAC Qualified Combat Medic/68W, Corpsman or Medical Technician/4NOX.

Nice To Haves

  • AHA PALS Certification or equivalent within 90 days of hiring
  • NAEMT PHTLS, ACS ATLS or equivalent preferred
  • 1 year of active pre-hospital service
  • Previous hazardous materials experience

Responsibilities

  • Assistance with activities of daily living, comfort care and nutritional support
  • Performance of selected diagnostic and therapeutic tasks and procedures as directed
  • Maintaining a clean safe environment
  • Ensuring adequate inventory of supplies and equipment
  • Data collection as pertinent to the patient population
  • May function independently under protocols approved by VCUHS Medical Director and hospital and departmental policy/procedure.
  • Functions under direction of a licensed independent practitioner in providing patient care, emotional support, and problem solving; all in accordance with hospital and unit policy/procedure.
  • Functions under departmental Standards of Practice (SOP) in the communications room and in the role of patient transport in collaboration with RN and Physician colleagues.
  • Job duties may include the handling, transportation, access to and/or contact with medications and related supplies.
