About The Position

Performs advanced technical work responding, rescuing, and transporting the sick and injured and administering emergency medical care at the paramedic level. Work is performed under the regular supervision of a Shift Supervisor. Daily guidance and direction concerning patient care is provided by an Emergency Medical Service Senior or Master Paramedic. Responding to calls for emergency medical services; providing emergency medical care; driving; maintaining records and files; preparing reports. Responds to emergency calls as an ambulance driver or attendant. Performs emergency medical care in accordance with established written guidelines and verbal instructions from physicians. Determines extent of illness or injury and establishes priorities for required care. Transports persons to appropriate medical facilities. Completes a variety of forms and reports pertaining to activities. Maintains ambulance, equipment, and supplies in clean and proper working order. Attends training courses to update skills and improve proficiency. Assists with housekeeping, station maintenance, and routine office tasks. Performs related tasks as required. Maintain assigned schedule and work extended hours or overtime as necessary to provide continuous 24/7 emergency coverage for the community. This includes, but is not limited to, day or night shifts, as well as varying shift patterns. Must be able to perform duties effectively for extended periods without a regular or guaranteed meal or break period. Access to verbal, written and electronic PHI for this job has been determined based on job level and job responsibility within the organization. Requirements

Graduation from high school or a GED
North Carolina Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic Credential issued by the North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services
Completion of hazardous materials awareness course
Completion of emergency driver course
Certifications in advanced cardiac life support
Certifications in pediatric advanced life support
Certifications in international trauma life support
Certifications in CPR
Certifications in national incident management systems
Possession of an appropriate driver's license
Possession of all certifications for the position as required by the State of North Carolina and the department
