About The Position

Under the supervision of a Licensed Respiratory Therapist, the Paramedic is responsible for providing technical support to Respiratory staff and assisting in the delivery of patient care following hospital and departmental policies, procedures, and standards of care.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of a Paramedic training program.
  • Current State of Michigan Paramedic license or National Paramedic Registration required.
  • Current BLS/ ACLS certification by American Heart Association.
  • TCEMCA authorization.
  • Thorough knowledge of routine patient care practices and procedures.
  • Ability to accurately assess patient/resident condition.
  • Ability to perform patient care procedures in a safe and effective manner.
  • Ability to accurately observe and collect patient data regarding the condition of the assigned patient, specific to the age group(s) served.
  • Ability to perform electrocardiograms and report test data.
  • Ability to report changes in patient condition to the appropriate person in a timely and responsible manner.
  • Knowledge of labeling specimens.
  • Ability to communicate, verbally and in writing, in a positive, consistent, enthusiastic, and open manner with internal and external customers, including patients/residents, staff, physicians, leadership, volunteers, and the general public.
  • Ability to create and maintain internal and external relationships necessary to effectively accomplish job-related goals and objectives.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in patient, personnel, and donor communications.

Nice To Haves

  • One-year experience in the pre-hospital setting preferred.
  • Nursing assistant experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with Windows applications preferred.
  • Coursework in medical terminology preferred.
  • Enhances individual and unit professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, in-service meetings, workshops, and by reading current literature concerning scope of practice.
  • Maintains professional licensure, certifications, and unit-specific competencies, as required by hospital and specialty area.

Responsibilities

  • Completes and documents physical assessments and vital signs.
  • Provides routine patient care such as Aerosol therapy, Oxygen rounds, EKG’s, and CPR.
  • Provides general clerical support to the unit, including answering phones, data entry, and assembling, maintaining, and distributing various information.
  • Transcribes physician orders and notifies appropriate parties of orders and consultations.
  • Performs general unit support activities such as keeping the work area clean and presentable, running errands, and making deliveries.
  • Maintains the medical record in an orderly fashion with documents placed under appropriate chart dividers.
  • Performs proper labeling of specimens and follows laboratory procedures for patient identification.
  • Performs other related responsibilities as necessary.
