About The Position

The PRM Paramedic is a member of the health care team who performs functions that support the delivery of a single standard of care and emergency first aid for a group of patients relating to their hygiene, safety, nutrition, elimination, and comfort needs. This role functions under the supervision of a physician, medical provider, or registered nurse. The PRM Paramedic applies artificial respiration or administers oxygen in cases of suffocation and asphyxiation, administers antiseptic solution to prevent infection until patient can receive professional care, and starts and administers intravenous fluids. They assist in lifting patients onto wheeled carts or stretchers and into and out of ambulances, and may aid physicians during emergency situations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma is required.
  • Graduate of an Accredited Program in Emergency Medical Technician.
  • Valid Florida Paramedic license or EMT license is required.
  • American Heart Association and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers may be required at the unit level upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment.
  • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) with 6 months validity

Responsibilities

  • Assists physicians and nurses with performing medical procedures, including examinations, minor surgical interventions, orthopedic treatment, and resuscitation.
  • Performs technical procedures as delegated, including but not limited to establishing IV access, performing ECGs and vital signs/telemetry monitoring, collecting specimens, providing wound care, transporting patients, patient positioning, mobility, drainage, and personal hygiene (bath, dressing, bed making/linen changes etc.).
  • Documents and communicates assessment findings or changes in physical, mental, and emotional conditions to medical/nursing staff.
  • Uses a systematic process to provide/modify care and patient/family education and support.
  • Prepares supplies and equipment and utilizes specialized equipment as needed when providing patient care.
  • Assists with keeping department areas clean, stocked, and orderly.
  • Prepares and cleans exam rooms, patient treatment areas, and stretchers between patient uses, as needed.
  • Takes and picks up food orders for patient's kitchen evaluation.
  • Assists in the fabrication of adaptive and assistive equipment, i.e. washing mitts, wheelchair gloves, safety belts, straps, etc.
  • Assists with office duties as needed, i.e. answering phone, taking messages or any other related clerical duties.
  • Follows and performs all related unit specific policies and procedures, as detailed on the unit specific competency check-list.

  • Performs all other related job duties as assigned.
