The Paramedic Provides the practice and delivery of safe, effective, ethical and culturally competent emergency care to patients of all ages in emergency situations who require stabilization and/or resuscitation as a result of illness or injury. Responsible for overseeing the daily operation when the Manager and/or Charge Medic are not available. This includes support for management of human, fiscal, material and environmental resources in accordance with hospital guidelines, organization/EMS philosophies and in compliance with regulatory and professional standards. Key accountabilities include fostering interdisciplinary collaborative relationships; making decisions in patient care/triage; ensure smooth shift operations; facilitate a seamless transition for the next shift that includes exchange of essential information; active participation in quality monitoring and performance improvement activities; promote evidence-based practice through research utilization or conduct of practice research. Performs technical procedures according to GMC Ambulance protocols and function within their Scope of Practice in accordance with the Iowa Department of Public Health, Bureau of EMS.
