About The Position

This role involves providing Advanced Life Support (ALS) to critically ill and injured patients in pre-hospital emergency situations. The Paramedic will be responsible for medical evaluation, treatment, and stabilization, as well as managing and directing first responders at emergency scenes. This position also includes patient transport, equipment maintenance, technical rescues, and accurate record-keeping. The Paramedic will work closely with hospital physicians and follow established protocols to ensure quality patient care.

Requirements

  • Perform technical medical skills with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Understand and effectively deal with emotional and medical needs of victims of injuries, acute illnesses, or psychological emergencies.
  • Maintain a professional and objective approach to the care of ill or injured patients.
  • Learn new concepts in rescue and medical skills and techniques in pre-hospital care.
  • Perform a variety of limited mechanical work involved in the use, testing, and maintenance of rescue and medical equipment.
  • Direct the work of and teach other personnel.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions and orders.
  • Maintain a professional attitude when representing North Caddo Medical Center.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, assist other agencies, hospital personnel, and the general public.
  • Drive and operate emergency ambulance units.
  • Author reports with narrative and correct numeric information.
  • Ability to operate medical vehicles, move medical equipment, and extract injured persons.
  • Ability to move over various types of terrain such as hilly, steep, rocky, rough, and/or wet slippery surfaces.
  • Ability to carry or assist to carry someone from the site of injury to the mode of transportation.
  • Ability to see, hear, and communicate with the injured patient for physical assessment.
  • Must be prepared to stay overnight.
  • Maintain clean and neat uniforms according to Hospital policy.
  • Wear approved uniform shirts (North Caddo EMS T-shirts or North Caddo T-shirts for sponsored events) and blue or black EMS pants.
  • Wear black work boots or black tennis shoes.
  • Possess two pagers and one portable radio.
  • Keep the portable radio on at all times.
  • Report any missing equipment immediately to the Supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Provide and direct fast, efficient Advanced Life Support to the ill and injured.
  • Perform advanced medical procedures including IV lines, intubations, and defibrillation.
  • Recognize and diagnose medical emergencies and perform critical physical examinations.
  • Manage and direct all first responders at the scene of a medical emergency.
  • Ensure quality patient care as established by North Caddo Medical Center policy.
  • Complete standardized reports of patient information and care.
  • Communicate patient condition and treatment orders with hospital physicians.
  • Follow standard written protocols when a physician cannot be contacted.
  • Transport the ill and injured to the correct facility for medical care.
  • Operate emergency vehicles in a safe manner.
  • Clean, disinfect, and maintain all equipment.
  • Perform technical rescues in removing victims from difficult terrain and circumstances.
  • Follow standard operating policies and procedures.
  • Clean and maintain vehicles and equipment.
  • Clean and maintain living quarters.
  • Maintain records of vehicles, supplies, training, and daily work.
  • Turn in copies of all licenses, certifications, and documentation required for job performance.
  • Operate medical vehicles, move medical equipment, and extract injured persons.
  • Carry or assist to carry someone from the site of injury to the mode of transportation and ride with the injured party to the hospital.
  • Perform a physical assessment of the injured party, requiring the ability to see, hear, and communicate.
  • Be prepared to stay overnight and maintain clean and neat uniforms.
  • Ensure all required equipment, including pagers and radios, is present and functional.
