About The Position

The Paramedic provides First Aid, Advanced Life Support (ALS) and or Basic Life Support (BLS) to victims of illness or injury usually within a pre-hospital setting. This position works within established standards of care and in accordance with the current Maryland Medical Protocols for Emergency Services Providers. The Paramedic operates assigned emergency vehicles to respond to emergency calls and to transport injured or sick persons to medical facilities in accordance with applicable Maryland laws and standards. Requirements

  • Two (2) years of emergency care experience
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Maryland Licensed Paramedic (Required)
  • Certification in Hazmat Operations (CHO)
  • Current ALS Certification (Required)
  • Certified National Registered Paramedic (CNRP)
  • A valid Class C non-commercial drivers license with no more than three (3) points
  • Must have a communication device, in which one can make and receive voice calls, to be contacted for on-call purposes
  • Must comply with all Federal (OSHA), State of Maryland (MOSH), safety regulations and applicable Harford County safety policies, procedures, or manual as required for this position

Responsibilities

  • Communicates with dispatchers or treatment center personnel to provide information about situation, to arrange reception of patients, or to receive instructions for further treatment
  • Maintains vehicles, medical and communication equipment to ensure they are in proper working order, replenishes first aid equipment and supplies with particular attention to medication, fluids and other material subject to expiration
  • Operates equipment, such as electrocardiograms (EKGs), external defibrillators, or bag valve mask resuscitators, in advanced life support environments
  • Administers first aid treatment or life support care to sick or injured persons in prehospital settings
  • Administers drugs, orally or by injection, or performs intravenous procedures under a physician's direction
  • Assesses nature and extent of illness or injury to establish and prioritize medical procedures
  • Completes all patient care documentation prior to the end of the shift
  • Responds to Quality Assurance (QA) messages in timely manner
  • Observes, records, and reports to physician the patient's condition or injury, the treatment provided, and reactions to drugs or treatment
  • Immobilizes patient for placement on stretcher and ambulance transport, using backboard or other spinal immobilization device
  • Decontaminates vehicle interior following treatment of patient with infectious disease, reports such cases to proper authorities
  • Operates assigned vehicles in safe manner and in accordance with applicable traffic laws
  • Coordinates work with other emergency medical team members or police or fire department personnel
