About The Position

The Liberty County Board of Commissioners is seeking skilled Paramedics to serve in the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) department. This position is responsible for providing high-quality emergency care at the paramedic level to patients. The ideal candidate is clinically strong, compassionate, and able to make quick decisions while working collaboratively with dispatchers, firefighters, law enforcement, nurses, and hospital staff.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of emergency medical practices, techniques, and standards.
  • Knowledge of radio communications.
  • Knowledge of ambulance operation, use, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of the procedures for handling special equipment and patient care items.
  • Knowledge of county roads, city streets and geography.
  • Knowledge of state and federal requirements.
  • Knowledge of departmental and safety policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of County policies and procedures.
  • Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions.
  • Skill in the operation of advanced medical equipment.
  • Skill in the provision of medical care under emergency conditions.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Skill in supervision and management.
  • Skill in interpersonal relations.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • More than one year of related experience required.
  • Possession of a valid Georgia Class C driver’s license.
  • Possession of appropriate state EMS certification at the Paramedic level.
  • American Heart or Red Cross CPR required
  • American Heart Advanced Cardiac Life Support required

Responsibilities

  • Responds to calls for assistance involving emergency medical situations, including cardiac problems, breathing difficulties, childbirth, strokes, seizures, sports and automobile accidents, and other traumatic and medical incidents.
  • Obtains medical histories and current event information; determines appropriate aid and response guidelines.
  • Provides general medical care and treatment at the Paramedic Georgia scope of practice-level to patients in an emergency situation as defined by state and local regulations.
  • Communicates with medical personnel via 2-way radio and telephone regarding injured persons' condition, vitals, and other relevant treatment information.
  • Transports patients in an ambulance.
  • Completes required patient reports prior to the end of shift.
  • Replaces, cleans, and resets equipment and supplies and conducts ambulance check-off at start of shift.
  • Assists and/or participates in training exercises and continuing education to maintain certification.
  • Attends public functions to provide emergency medical response as needed.
  • Provides public safety demonstrations and screenings.
  • Attends mandatory classes as deemed by the department.
  • Subject to recall and mandatory overtime.
  • May be required to act as Medical Incident Command on mass casualty scenes or disasters in the absence of a supervisor, Deputy Director or Director.
  • Performs related duties.
