About The Position

Arcata-Mad River Ambulance, a REACH/GMR company, is hiring Paramedics to respond to emergency and non-emergency requests for medical assistance in the Arcata, California area. Paramedics provide high-quality patient care, treatment, and customer service, supporting timely access to definitive medical care in the region.

Paramedics assess calls and determine appropriate responses using progressive Paramedic protocols. They provide advanced care using medical equipment and procedures, communicate with patients and their loved ones, and may lead the Paramedic team and manage the scene and unit. The role also includes driving the ambulance on 911 responses and working professionally with allied health personnel, public safety personnel, and fellow Paramedics. Employees may participate in community programs to support the organization’s image and community relations.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
• State Paramedic License.
• Ambulance Driver’s License.
• State Driver’s License.
• BLS, ACLS, and NREMT-Paramedic.
• Driving record in compliance with company policy.
• Pass the Physical Agility Test.
• Some work experience, preferably in healthcare.

Responsibilities

• Assess each call situation and determine the best course of action while following progressive Paramedic protocols.
• Use Paramedic skills, medical equipment, and procedures—including a defibrillator, EKG monitor, oxygen and suction devices, and intravenous fluids—to provide advanced medical care.
• Communicate with patients and their loved ones, providing information and assurance about the care being given.
• Act as Paramedic team leader and take responsibility for scene and unit management as needed.
• Drive the ambulance on 911 responses.
• Work collaboratively and professionally with allied health and public safety personnel and fellow Paramedics.
• Participate in community programs to maintain the AMRA/GMR image and establish strong community relations.
