About The Position

The Paramedic Lab Instructor is responsible for developing, conducting, and evaluating laboratory training sessions for the MVHS EMS Education Paramedic Program. This role also assists with other components of the Paramedic Program to help maintain the effectiveness of the program and its students. The instructor will assist with the coordination of American Heart Association Training Center responsibilities and serve as a resource to staff, students, the course sponsor, and the NYS DOH Division of State EMS. Participation in Performance Improvement activities and committees related to EMS Education is also expected.

Requirements

  • Minimum of HS diploma or equivalent education.
  • Current certification as NYS Paramedic.
  • In good standing with NYS Division of NYS EMS.
  • Paramedic Lab Instructor certification or able to obtain within 1 year.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) or more years working as a Paramedic.
  • NYS DOH Certified Instructor Coordinator or Clinical Lab Instructor.
  • AHA CPR, ACLS and PALS Instructor.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates hands-on course sessions in accordance with accepted NYS DOH curricula, the National Education Standards, and the NYS protocols.
  • Schedules adequate and appropriate Clinical Lab Instructors (CLI), proctors, and/or ancillary staff to provide positive learning for all students for Paramedic Lab sessions.
  • Communicates with other training sites within the paramedic program to ensure uniformity in all lab sessions.
  • Facilitates the setup and breakdown of all practical skills equipment during the course, including practical skills exams.
  • Ensures MVHS EMS Education equipment is maintained, properly stored, and functional for future sessions.
  • Coordinates lab testing during the program.
  • Collects and submits student evaluations accurately and timely.
  • Serves as a resource or point of contact for paramedic students in the lab sessions.
  • Provides guidance and expertise to CLIs, proctors, and other staff on lab sessions.
  • Monitors students while they are taking their written exams.
  • Coordinates didactic makeup sessions for student absences.
  • Grades module examinations and quizzes.
  • Facilitates the AHA courses included in the program (BLS, ACLS, PALS).
  • Oversees the documentation of all labs in the electronic learning system and monitors student progress.
  • Performs other duties as required.
