About The Position

This is a Rotor Wing Transport Paramedic who provides comprehensive emergent/critical care to and/or stabilizes chronically and acutely ill or injured patients before and during transport to hospital facilities. When air transport is not possible, this position will also be expected to assist with or provide care in ground ambulances and any other transport modalities to safely move a patient.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
  • Minimum of three years' experience in a busy 911 EMS system is required.
  • Paramedic certification required in state of hire upon starting position.
  • Current Certifications required upon hire include ACLS, PALS and BLS.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) must be obtained prior to assuming clinical responsibilities.
  • Transport Provider Advanced Trauma Course (TPATC) or equivalent, and Sugar, Temperature, Airway, Blood pressure, Lab work, and Emotional support (STABLE) certification required within 18 months of hire.
  • If hired on or before 10/9/25 Flight Paramedic Certification (FP-C) required within 30 months of hire.
  • If hired after 10/9/25, Flight Paramedic Certification (FP-C) required within 24 months of hire.
  • Maintain flight duty weight of less than 225 lbs in plain clothes.
  • Relates throughout the interview process the experience, training and education needed to perform the job.
  • Must have the ability to demonstrate critical thinking skills and autonomous practice as evidenced by successful completion of testing throughout the interview and orientation process.
  • Must have the ability to remain flexible and work in various adverse conditions, such as weather, excessive heat, cold, high altitude, MCI and rural areas.
  • Colorado Employees Only: Valid Driver's License on date of hire and maintenance thereafter.
  • Obtain Wyoming, & Nebraska Paramedic Certification before entering second seat portion of orientation.

Nice To Haves

  • National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
  • Rotor wing/fixed wing/ground critical care transport experience desired.
  • Additional related education and/or experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides care and transport for critically ill or injured patients of all age groups. Independently assesses patients, intervenes with medications and procedures and provides care to maximum outcomes.
  • Collaborates with other health team members and healthcare team members from other facilities to provide continuity of care and the highest level of care that may not be available at some external facilities.
  • Communicates effectively while working with internal and external customers including hospitals, EMS, and police and fire departments.
  • Completes annual education requirements as outlined in the annual education requirements document.
  • Performs advanced procedures with appropriate training and competency validations. Procedures include, but are not limited to: chest tubes, central lines, I/O placement, cricothyrotomy, and intubation.
  • Performs all physical requirements of the job in confined spaces, austere environments and during potentially adverse environmental conditions.
  • Operates an assigned vehicle in varying weather conditions, providing safe, reliable, and timely transport to a designated point of service as needed (Colorado Employees only).
  • Employ solutions oriented and collaborative practices with others to find safe means to both move towards patients and find transport solutions when operational constraints may prohibit normal operations and capabilities.
  • Interacts with all levels of staff in a variety of departments, physicians, patients, families and external contacts, such as employees of other health care institutions, community providers and agencies, concerning the health care of the patient. Interacts with other health care providers in numerous settings to in order to report and ask for or clarify information. Synthesizes and prioritizes data from multiple sources to provide support for the human response of the patient and family to changes in health status.
