About The Position

The Paralegal supports litigation and administrative casework by performing legal research, managing case-related documents, and assisting attorneys with filing and compliance tasks. This role involves monitoring litigation deadlines, maintaining databases, proofreading legal documents, and preparing filings, providing essential support to the legal team and ensuring accurate, timely litigation processes. The United States Attorney’s Office (USAO) is the federal government’s principal prosecutorial arm at the district level. It operates under the United States Department of Justice and is responsible for enforcing federal laws, representing the United States in court, and ensuring public safety through both criminal and civil litigation.

Requirements

  • Recent (within the past five years) relevant paralegal experience or equivalent.
  • Strong legal research skills with the ability to summarize findings clearly and accurately.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent proofreading skills and familiarity with Bluebook citation style.
  • Experience with case management or litigation databases, preferably Salesforce.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and maintain accurate records.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work under general supervision and collaborate with legal professionals.
  • Candidates must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the worksite and be able to reliably report on-site as required.
  • The candidate must currently reside within commutable distance to the work location.

  • Preference given to law students, candidates with litigation-specific experience, or those holding a paralegal certificate.
  • Candidates with a Paralegal Certificate or equivalent will receive special consideration.

Responsibilities

  • Review and organize large quantities of emails and other documents.
  • Create and use spreadsheets and databases.
  • Gather factual information and material, including agency records, court records and other public records.
  • Read, analyze and summarize materials, including court pleadings, court orders. transcripts, files and other factual materials, and draft memoranda as needed.
  • Work with federal agencies to locate and organize information and ensure compliance with court orders.
  • Perform specialized research, including factual and legal research, as necessary, and write memoranda.
  • Provide automated litigation assistance to attorneys in briefs, presentations, and hearings.
  • Use various software applications and graphics hardware such as scanners.
  • Prepare documents, exhibits, charts and visual materials.
  • Provide technical support, e.g., enlarging charts and photographs, duplicating tapes and videos and marking exhibits.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
