Requirements
- Two-year Legal Assistant or Paralegal diploma
- 4 years of progressively responsible related experience as a Legal Assistant or a Paralegal in specialized prosecutions or experience working in a criminal law office
- Equivalencies for education and experience will be considered on the basis of 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education. For example, 1 year of Legal Assistant Certificate plus 5 years of progressively responsible related experience.
Nice To Haves
- Strong knowledge of legal processes, as well as a firm foundation of legal assistant experience
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint)
- Proficiency with JOIN, PRISM, Criminal E-File (Search Programs)
- A valid Alberta Motor Vehicle Operators License, or equivalent.
Responsibilities
- Managing complex prosecution files in compliance with legislation, regulations, and legal principles.
- Conducting legal research and analysis to support case preparation and prosecution strategies.
- Obtaining and assessing critical information and documentation from courts, police services, correctional institutions, and other agencies.
- Supporting Crown Prosecutors through courtroom coordination, witness management, and file preparation.
- Collaborating with prosecutors and stakeholders to advance files and resolve issues efficiently.
- Providing procedural guidance and support to members of the prosecution team.
