Requirements

  • Two-year Legal Assistant or Paralegal diploma
  • 4 years of progressively responsible related experience as a Legal Assistant or a Paralegal in specialized prosecutions or experience working in a criminal law office
  • Equivalencies for education and experience will be considered on the basis of 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education. For example, 1 year of Legal Assistant Certificate plus 5 years of progressively responsible related experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong knowledge of legal processes, as well as a firm foundation of legal assistant experience
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint)
  • Proficiency with JOIN, PRISM, Criminal E-File (Search Programs)
  • A valid Alberta Motor Vehicle Operators License, or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Managing complex prosecution files in compliance with legislation, regulations, and legal principles.
  • Conducting legal research and analysis to support case preparation and prosecution strategies.
  • Obtaining and assessing critical information and documentation from courts, police services, correctional institutions, and other agencies.
  • Supporting Crown Prosecutors through courtroom coordination, witness management, and file preparation.
  • Collaborating with prosecutors and stakeholders to advance files and resolve issues efficiently.
  • Providing procedural guidance and support to members of the prosecution team.
