About The Position

The Paralegal assists leaders on the Legal and Compliance team by performing a variety of legal duties, including conducting legal research, drafting legal documents, handling active and non-routine litigation matters, responding to subpoena and discovery requests, and maintaining confidential company records. This role requires 100% onsite attendance in our Pontiac office.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or Paralegal certificate and a minimum of three years of previous experience in a legal support environment, either in a corporate or law firm setting.
  • Experience performing legal research and comprehension of state statutes and civil code procedures.
  • Knowledge of the litigation and subpoena processes.
  • Commitment to continuous business improvement.
  • Ability to collaborate with numerous teams and team members to mitigate risk and ensure legal matters are resolved timely.
  • Effective planning, organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously effectively.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent written and communication skills with an attention to correct grammar and business writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Critical thinking, analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to work well in a team based environment.
  • This position requires on-site attendance.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing and responding to legal documents.
  • Reviewing, monitoring and responding to subpoenas and other discovery requests.
  • Researching and analyzing statutes, regulations, judicial decisions, legal articles and other relevant informational sources.
  • Handling guideline issues that have legal nuances.
  • Preparing written correspondence with outside counsel and other third-parties, including responses to complaints.
  • Ensuring compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Editing legal documents for accuracy.
  • Assisting with issues related to MERS, servicing, marketing reviews, settlement agent oversight, title claims and other title related issues.
  • Other duties as assigned.
