About The Position
Under general direction of an attorney, performs a variety of specialized legal assignments involving the advanced interpretation of laws and legal procedures; and performs related work as required. This is an Open Competitive/Countywide Promotional recruitment being conducted to fill a current full-time vacancy in the Public Defender’s Office. The list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies throughout the County as they occur.
Requirements
- Two years of full-time experience as a paralegal AND an associate degree from an accredited college or university in paralegal studies, completion of a paralegal program approved by the American Bar Association, or a paralegal certification; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities
- conduct legal research and summarize legal issues
- oversee case management deadlines
- analyze, organize, and summarize discovery
- assist with preparing case files for court
- coordinate with experts
- prepare exhibits, filings, and appendices in compliance with local court rules
