About The Position

The Paralegal provides comprehensive legal and administrative support to attorneys within the Office of University Counsel, with primary responsibility for contract management, legal document preparation, and office operations. This position conducts initial contract reviews for completeness, coordinates the assignment and tracking of contracts through electronic management systems, and maintains contract records and workflows to ensure efficient processing. The role also supports the New Mexico Patient Debt Reduction Program by preparing pleadings, coordinating matters with attorneys and outside counsel, managing case-related communications, tracking recovered funds, and maintaining accurate records. In addition, the position serves as a key administrative resource by scheduling meetings, managing calendars, handling correspondence, participating in departmental coordination meetings, and supporting day-to-day office operations. Lastly, this position also supports the Guardianship arrangements with the University of New Mexico Hospital. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong organizational skills, attention to detail, proficiency with legal document management systems, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced legal environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least 7 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Microsoft Teams.
  • Experience maintaining confidential records and handling sensitive legal and financial information.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in document review and record management.
  • Ability to interpret and follow legal, regulatory, and institutional procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while managing competing priorities.
  • Experience coordinating calendars, meetings, and administrative operations for multiple professionals.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Paralegal certification from an accredited program.
  • Familiarity with contract management systems, document repositories, and workflow management platforms such as HighQ or similar applications.
  • Experience drafting legal documents, pleadings, stipulations, correspondence, and other legal support materials.
  • Knowledge of healthcare, patient financial services, collections, debt reduction, or healthcare regulatory matters.

Responsibilities
