About The Position

As a Paralegal, you’ll play a key role in supporting litigation, preparing essential legal documents, and representing the City in administrative matters. Two (2) vacancies exist in the City Attorney's Office. Immediate and future vacancies will be filled from this eligible list for a period of three (3) months from the date the eligible list is created, with the option of extending that period at the City's discretion. If the examination process is suspended for this recruitment, the eligible list may be limited to three (3) months.

Requirements

  • Completion of a paralegal training program from an accredited school, AND One (1) year of paralegal experience in a law office.
  • Completion of one (1) year of juris doctorate course work from a school of law, which included course work in writing and research, contracts, and civil procedure.
  • Applicants must attach a copy of transcripts.
  • Selected eligible candidates certified will be required to successfully pass a department interview and a Department of Justice fingerprint prior to employment with the City of Fresno and sign a confidentiality agreement.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare legal documents and pleadings.
  • Prepare and respond to Public Records Act requests.
  • Conduct legal research and draft memoranda.
  • Organize case files, trial documents, and exhibits.
  • Brief witnesses for hearings and trials.
  • Perform investigative work and interview witnesses.
  • Manage case data and respond to inquiries.
  • Present cases before administrative hearing officers.
  • Assist with code enforcement activities.
  • Investigate citizen complaints and prepare cases.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
