About The Position

The Paralegal is responsible for managing a wide range of legal, compliance, and operational matters that impact our associates and customers. This role plays a critical part in ensuring efficient contract administration, regulatory compliance, corporate governance, and litigation support while partnering closely with internal business teams to ensure legal risks are appropriately managed efficiently and effectively. The successful candidate must possess a strong attention to detail, effective communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to balance legal risk with business objectives in a fast-paced retail environment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a high level of organization, including tracking cases, deadlines, and maintaining organized files, and ensuring information is accurately stored and easily accessible.
  • Draft legal documents, which may include all documents related to real estate transactions, documentation in support of the discovery process, company policies, vendor, marketing, sponsorship, confidentiality, and technology agreements, and service contracts.
  • Support corporate real estate activities by coordinating internal approvals related to real estate matters.
  • Monitor high-stakes details such as rent obligations, lease renewal deadlines, and tax implications.
  • Implement and manage legal holds.
  • Serve as the expert for internal teams by translating complex terms into clear guidance.
  • Maintain contract templates and legal guidance/best practice documents.
  • Identify opportunities to improve contract templates, workflows, and efficiency.
  • Serve as a point of contact for leadership on contract status, requirements, and processes.
  • Support leadership teams by assisting in claims and evidentiary collection.
  • Assist with responses to subpoenas, regulatory inquiries, and third-party information requests.
  • Maintain relationships with outside counsel and vendors, including engagement letters and outside counsel guidelines.
  • Coordinate with outside counsel regarding case updates, billing, and budgets.
  • Review and process legal invoices and assist with budget tracking and forecasting.
  • Serve as a central intake point for legal requests and manage workflow prioritization.
  • Support product-related compliance matters such as recalls, safety notices, and regulatory inquiries.
  • Provide legal support for promotions, sweepstakes, contests, and marketing initiatives.
  • Monitor and help ensure compliance with consumer protection laws, ADA/accessibility requirements, and state/local retail laws and regulations.
  • Monitor and track changes in federal, state, and local laws impacting retail operations and communicate updates with leadership.
  • Assist with internal audits, compliance reviews, and risk assessments.
  • Provide support for corporate governance processes and ensure compliance with applicable laws related to corporate governance.
