About The Position

Leidos is looking for a Paralegal to join their Washington, DC team. This role involves processing, analyzing, and monitoring evidence requests using an electronic database. The candidate will review and analyze new evidence requests, draft responses including referral letters, rejection letters, affidavits, and other correspondence. Responsibilities also include drafting court pleadings and petitions for filing in district court, contacting witnesses, following up with attorneys, and responding to public inquiries. The paralegal will assist attorneys with legal research, case summaries, and research projects related to international judicial assistance. Additional duties include document management tasks such as printing, filing, scanning, copying, and shipping packages. The candidate will also provide support to other team members as needed.

Requirements

  • Paralegal certificate, or JD, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school with at least one year of study completed.
  • At least one year of litigation paralegal experience.
  • Basic legal knowledge, including standard legal citation for legal motions and memorandums.
  • Sufficient experience with legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw.
  • Thorough knowledge and hands-on familiarity with computer applications including word processing, databases (document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems.
  • Basic familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources.
  • Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with the Microsoft suite, including Excel and Word.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat.
  • Bluebook and Cite checking experience.
  • Experience with Relativity.
  • Strong analytic, organizational, and writing skills.
  • Trial experience.

Responsibilities

  • Processing, analyzing, and monitoring evidence requests using an electronic database.
  • Reviewing and analyzing new evidence requests and drafting appropriate responses (referral letters, rejection letters, affidavits, etc.).
  • Drafting court pleadings and petitions and preparing them for filing in district court.
  • Contacting witnesses regarding new evidence requests and following up with OIL attorneys.
  • Responding to inquiries from the public regarding mandamus petitions/requests.
  • Assisting attorneys with legal research related to evidence or service matters.
  • Performing Westlaw or Lexis research, creating case summaries, and conducting research projects on international judicial assistance.
  • Printing, filing, scanning, copying documents, and sending packages via FedEx.
  • Assisting with other tasks as necessary when team members are absent or require assistance.

Benefits

  • Pay for this position will be $25.58/hr.
