About The Position

The Kings County District Attorney’s Office (KCDA) is seeking a Paralegal Specialist to join their team. KCDA is committed to developing and implementing innovative prosecutorial strategies to keep Brooklyn safe while ensuring fairness and justice. The Bureau of Litigation Technology (BOLT) will be responsible for studying current discovery practices, creating new processes and workflows to leverage staff and technology, and coordinating with line staff to complete discovery tasks promptly.

Requirements

• A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and three years of experience assisting ADAs or,
• An Associate degree and four years of experience assisting ADAs or,
• A Paralegal Certificate from an accredited program approved by the American Bar Association can substitute for one year of experience. However, candidate must meet the education and/or experience criteria which is equivalent to 1"1" or "2".
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including the ability to use macros to create forms and Excel spreadsheets.
• Proficiency in Adobe Acrobat and the ability to create forms.
• Proficiency in internal applications, including case management.

Responsibilities

• Initiates Discovery requests.
• Receive, review, and assess the contents of files.
• Confers with the ADA/paralegal and identifies necessary documents that need to be obtained from the Police Department or any other agency.
• Promptly orders 911s.
• Request memo books, and BWC for all officers.
• Prepares requests for missing essential discovery (i.e., vouchers, DD5s).
• Act as a liaison with our BWC unit to obtain any missing video.
• Makes any needed redactions as requested by ADA.
• Creates an Excel spreadsheet to track all requests.
