About The Position

Florida Rural Legal Services, Inc. (FRLS) is a non-profit law firm dedicated to providing free civil legal aid to eligible individuals, families, and vulnerable communities across 13 Florida counties, as well as to farm workers statewide. Since 1966, FRLS has been committed to justice, offering legal services in various areas of law at no cost to clients. FRLS collaborates with community organizations and pro bono attorneys to deliver advocacy, outreach, and education to protect the rights of those in need. The Outreach Coordinator is responsible for identifying and facilitating community outreach, providing education on FRLS legal services, and assisting with outreach events. This role serves as the primary point of contact between the organization and the community, fostering relationships with stakeholders and coordinating information sharing. The ideal candidate is motivated, passionate, possesses strong interpersonal and communication skills, and has experience in community outreach program development and implementation.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Knowledge of the legal system, commitment to the mission of FRLS and compassion for the clients.
  • Ability to forge positive relationships with clients, community, and colleagues.
  • Good organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, yet independently.
  • Creativity and ability to maximize the use of existing resources.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Case Management System.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with peers, supervisors, clients and the public.
  • Must be able to effectively work in high pressure situations which involve deadlines.
  • Ability to travel frequently.

Nice To Haves

  • Paralegal degree or certification preferred.
  • Fluent in English and Spanish or Haitian Creole is preferred.
  • Three to four years of professional experience conducting and developing community outreach preferred.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends, to best fulfill the goals of the outreach project.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a calendar of outreach activities, including community events, faith-based entities, workshops, appearances, and other communication opportunities.
  • Prepare an annual plan for outreach activities.
  • Establish new and nurture existing relationships with collaborative partners.
  • Schedule regular outreach opportunities in the community designed to disseminate information regarding our services.
  • Schedule legal clinics in collaboration with advocates and community partners.
  • Prepare accurate records and reports on outreach goals.
  • Contact community organizations serving low-income communities and FRLS’s target populations, explaining the mission and services.
  • Meet regularly with outreach project partners to give updates and plan outreach.
  • Perform other tasks and duties as assigned or required.
