About The Position

This position involves working with settlement attorneys to administer the "intent to settle" process and assisting with the processing of administrative settlements. The role requires reviewing Workers' Compensation claims, coordinating matters with the Ohio Attorney General's office and external attorneys, and updating databases and settlement workbooks. The position also assists with general office duties related to the Director of the unit and general Medicare duties related to the Medicare Secondary Payer Act and SCHIP Extension Act. The State of Ohio is a drug-free workplace, and this position may be subject to additional restrictions.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of certification program for paralegal or legal assistant.
  • 12 months of law school training.
  • Equivalent of Minimum Class Qualification for Employment.
  • Knowledge of legislative/administrative rule processes.
  • Knowledge of legal research.
  • Knowledge of legal terminology.
  • Knowledge of legal issue recognition.
  • Knowledge of case & statutory interpretation.
  • Knowledge of legal analysis.
  • Knowledge of law.
  • Knowledge of state &/or federal laws & rules applicable to assigned department.
  • Knowledge of court filing procedures.
  • Knowledge of legal communication.
  • Knowledge of rules of evidence.
  • Knowledge of Sub. HB27; IC; AG.
  • Skill in use of office equipment (e.g. photocopiers, personal computers).
  • Skill in use of BWC software.
  • Skill in use of workers’ compensation databases & computer systems.
  • Ability to use proper research methods in gathering data.
  • Ability to deal with many variables & determine recommended specific course of action.
  • Ability to prepare legal/procedural materials & related information for review, approval & signature &/or use attorney.
  • Ability to handle sensitive & routine inquiries from & contacts with public, legal personnel & business officials.
  • Must be able to provide own transportation &/or legally operate a state-owned vehicle.
