Requirements

  • Minimum three (3) years of professional experience involving paralegal support services
  • Experience processing and reviewing complex discovery
  • Assisting in trial preparation by compiling, organizing, and indexing various evidentiary exhibits
  • Reviewing legal documents to extract information related to specific issues
  • Verifying citations and statutory references contained in legal documents
  • Utilizing various computerized database programs to include automated legal research tools and public information to organize extensive documents
  • Conducting legal research
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access
  • U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain adjudication for the requisite background investigation

Responsibilities

  • Organizing and processing high quantities of data and discovery documents, including electronic discovery.
  • Compiling, preparing, and summarizing relevant materials for use by AUSAs in discovery and in preparation of motions, briefs and other legal documents.
  • Seeking and locating sources of information, in aid of criminal investigations and trials, through contact or correspondence with other departments and/or agencies of federal, state and local government.
  • Gathering factual material independently; reading, annotating, and summarizing transcripts, files and other factual aspects of the case; obtaining financial and statistical information, agency records, court records and other public records; reviewing and analyzing documents and drafting factual memoranda.
  • Identifying conflicting statements or areas requiring further investigation.
  • Drafting jury instructions and other trial documents for filing in court.
  • Performing legal research.
  • Writing preliminary drafts of correspondence.
  • Assisting AUSAs in drafting court pleadings.
  • Uploading electronic documents and data onto document review platforms and organizing folders for review.
  • Participating in review and analysis of electronic documents.
  • Redacting documents and transcripts for discovery, including using electronic redaction.
  • Preparing high volume of exhibits for trial using varied media formats.
  • Providing critical assistance in trial preparations.
  • Preparing documents, charts and visual materials for use in trials.
  • Providing technical support, e.g., enlarging charts and photographs and marking exhibits.
  • Providing automated litigation assistance to AUSAs in trial preparation and courtroom presentations.
  • Utilizing various software applications and graphics hardware such as scanners and plotters.
