About The Position

The Paralegal – IP, Litigation, and Public Policy provides advanced paralegal support to Belden’s Legal team with a primary focus on intellectual property portfolio operations, litigation support, and legal documentation that enables business execution. The role administers IP systems and processes, including invention disclosures, prosecution support, and annuity coordination, while partnering with internal stakeholders and outside counsel globally. This position also supports contract and compliance workflows, including policy and training enablement, under attorney direction. The role requires strong judgment, confidentiality discipline, and a continuous-improvement mindset. This is a hybrid position and reports to the VP, Assistant General Counsel and Chief Counsel – IP, Litigation, and Public Policy.

Requirements

  • Paralegal certificate/degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 10 years of corporate and law firm legal experience relevant to supporting IP and complex legal matters.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of IP process and deadlines, including coordination with outside counsel and strong understanding of attorney-client privilege and confidentiality best practices.
  • Excellent organization, communication, effective writing, and execution skills with the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and work with minimal supervision across multiple stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to review/edit legal documents and improve processes, including experience leveraging AI or data analytics tools to increase efficiency and consistency.

Responsibilities

  • Administer Belden’s IP portfolio and systems by managing invention disclosures, portfolio databases, filing and prosecution workflows, and coordination with outside counsel regarding the prosecution of patent and trademark matters throughout the world.
  • Drive IP program best practices including trade secret identification and protection support, offensive/defensive IP process support, patent marking compliance administration, and IP metrics reporting.
  • Support litigation and dispute matters by tracking matters, coordinating document collection and discovery support, assisting with legal holds, and liaising with outside counsel as directed by attorneys.
  • Draft, prepare, and redline various legal documents and support continuous improvement of legal templates, policies, best practice guidelines, and department procedures.
  • Leverage advanced AI and other data analytics tools to achieve greater IP and litigation function capabilities and efficiencies, enable continuous improvement, and foster the Company’s culture of innovation at an ever increasing speed and volume than ever before.
  • Enable compliance, governance, and training activities by supporting policy rollouts, training logistics, and legal documentation in accordance with company requirements.
  • Manage legal operations activities including annuity and maintenance fee reporting and payments, the Company’s Inventor Award Program worldwide, generating patent data reporting, managing the companies IP management tools, IP and broader legal spend tracking, invoice processing, and outside counsel billing guideline compliance.
