The Employment Litigation Division of the Office of the Los Angeles City Attorney represents City departments, other than proprietary departments, in employment litigation brought by current and former employees. The Division has a strong focus on cases involving public safety employees, including Police and Fire, and also handles cases brought by employees of other City departments. The Paralegal will work extensively on discovery, including responses to interrogatories, requests for admissions, and requests for production of documents, and will summarize deposition transcripts. The role also prepares legal memoranda and correspondence, including declarations, discovery motions, summary judgment motions, and other litigation pleadings, and conducts the legal research needed to prepare those documents. The Paralegal will assist with trial-document preparation and perform other related duties as assigned. The position generally works 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, though flexibility is required. Regular onsite work is required, and assignment may be at any location of the Office of the Los Angeles City Attorney. Reliable attendance and punctuality are mandatory. External applicants appointed to this exempt, non-Civil Service position are subject to a one-year probationary period. Employees participate in the Los Angeles City Employees’ Retirement System (LACERS), with mandatory employee pension contributions and a City contribution toward the retirement benefit.
