About The Position

Join our Legal Division within Nebraska Department of Health & Human Services team as a Child Welfare Paralegal! This paralegal will help coordinate hearing attendance and will be responsible for ensuring all the necessary documentation has been provided to the agency attorney and filed in court. This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining a tracking system for the receipt of documents necessary for court hearings, the electronic filing of necessary court documents, hearing dates and attendance at those hearings. This will include coordinating attorney calendars and drafting court pleadings, preparing legal documents, conducting basic legal research, interviewing witnesses, and providing administrative assistance. This paralegal may assist with drafting regulations, writing appellate briefs, summarizing case documents, and policy review.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in paralegal studies from an American Bar Association approved program at an accredited college or successful completion of a program at an American Bar Association approved paralegal institute. Experience may be substituted for education on a year for year basis.
  • Effective decision making and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to maintain a strict level of confidentiality
  • Demonstrate a strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Exhibit excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to meet time-sensitive deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be highly organized and work well under pressure

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of/experience with electronic filing of court documents
  • Knowledge of juvenile court system
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite
