About The Position

Dentons is seeking a Corporate Paralegal (Compliance) to join our Corporate Services Department based in our Calgary office. The role requires a polished, confident and reliable individual who has the ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to shifting priorities. The ideal candidate is organized, discreet, able to multitask and possesses a high level of client-care with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. This position places a strong emphasis on multitasking, clear communication, attention to detail, and a willingness to be an early adopter of new technologies.

Requirements

  • A high level of accuracy, attention to detail and time management skills;
  • Demonstrates a team approach and supports colleagues;
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities to meet necessary deadlines;
  • Clear, concise, and professional communication skills;
  • Capacity to manage many files simultaneously and a proven ability to work under pressure of time, accuracy and constant interruptions;
  • Advanced computer skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; and
  • Commitment to confidentiality, privacy regulations, and ethical standards.
  • Office experience in a professional services firm is required;
  • CORES Level 1 Accreditation is required;
  • Minimum 2 to 3 years’ experience preparing annual return packages is preferred;

Nice To Haves

  • Paralegal diploma is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing and coordinating annual return packages (including annual returns and resolutions) for Alberta and federal entities such as corporations, societies, and Part 9 companies, while monitoring applicable deadlines;
  • Preparing and coordinating extra-provincial annual reports for all Canadian jurisdictions, liaising with agents and monitoring of applicable deadlines;
  • Handling annual review of Individuals with Significant Control information;
  • Electronic filing of annual returns and notices with Alberta Registries and Corporations Canada;
  • Maintaining corporate records within internal databases;
  • Filing compliance documents and various executed materials electronically in minute books;
  • Processing department email requests related to annual maintenance;
  • Communicating with lawyers, legal assistants and corporate clients; and
  • Performing additional tasks as required.
