About The Position

The Paraeducator position at Grant Elementary involves supporting classroom instruction, activities, and building operations. This role may include limited instruction and supervision of students under the guidance of a faculty member or Principal. Duties can also be clerical in nature and involve supervising students in non-classroom areas such as the cafeteria, playground, and other campus locations. Assignments are received from faculty members and/or the Principal.

Requirements

High school graduate or GED
48 college credits OR ability to pass Work Keys basic skills exam, administered by FPS
Have an interest in young people and an ability to deal fairly and tactfully with students.
Possess a positive attitude toward education and a helpful attitude toward people.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty and staff.
Ability to carry out assignments in effective support of the instructional program.
Skills in human relations and skills in written and oral communication.
Skills in working with adults and children.
Visual and auditory acuity.

Nice To Haves

Some experience working with children in an educational setting.
First Aid/CPR certificate preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist with classroom preparation and clean up.
Attend to the physical needs of younger students and account for articles brought to school by children.
Assist faculty members with copying of materials and organizing instructional materials.
Supervise students on grounds, in the cafeteria, playground, and other areas in and around the school building(s).
Maintain order.
Assist with the clean up of small spills and messes.
Perform related work as assigned.
