About The Position

Paraeducators support a variety of positions throughout the school district, including Classroom Teachers, Reading Specialists, School Psychologists, Librarians, and Behavioral Program Teachers. They work directly with one or more SPED Liaisons to support a student’s IEP goals and may collaborate closely with other school staff. Requirements

  • Have obtained an associate (or higher) degree, or
  • Have at least two years of post-secondary education that is equivalent to at least 48 credit hours from an accredited higher education institution, or
  • High School Diploma/GED and have met a rigorous standard on one of the formal Massachusetts-endorsed Assessments: Parapro or WorkKeys.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the SPED Liaison and Teachers to implement IEP (Individualized Education Program) accommodations.
  • Support students on IEPs to facilitate success in the educational setting.
  • Assist students in completing classroom assignments and participation in classroom activities.
  • Assure student understanding of classroom rules and procedures and assist students by answering questions, providing proper examples, emotional support, friendly attitude and general guidance.
  • Provide positive specific feedback to students.
  • Facilitate small group and/or one-to-one instruction.
  • Collect Data in support of IEP goals, objectives, and/or behavior plans.
  • Arrive at school promptly at assigned time.
  • May be assigned bus duty, lunch duty, recess duty, hall duty, and/or other duties to monitor and assist students with transition.
  • Maintain a professional attitude at all times.
  • Demonstrate the ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with students, staff, and the school community.
  • Effectively communicate with students and other staff orally and in writing.
  • May be required to assist with other duties as requested by the Principal.
  • Ability to follow written and/or oral directions of the SPED Liaison, Teacher, IEP, and/or principal.
  • Understand and uphold confidentiality requirements regarding student academic, special education, and medical records.
  • Understand responsibilities as a Mandated Reporter under state law.
  • Understand and implement emergency preparedness procedures when circumstances require.
  • Perform duties with awareness of District and Hudson Board of Education policies.
  • Attend Professional Development programs as offered by the district.
