About The Position

This position's responsibilities are to supervise students assigned to in-school suspension, to maintain attendance and discipline records, and to perform a variety of tasks related to in-school suspension. The Paraeducator - In-School Suspension performs all or a combination of several of the following functions: Supervises students assigned to in-school suspension; monitors student behavior. Correct behaviors and maintains discipline according to established policies and procedures. Instructs students in behavioral rules and codes for student safety, socialization and individual growth. Processes disciplinary notices according to established procedures; mails to appropriate parent or guardian; maintains records in student files and on computer. Enters attendance data into computer; runs required reports; checks on student absences for accuracy as needed; calls parents as necessary. Prepares and mails deficiency notices each semester; tracks absences of at-risk students. Contacts students assigned to program as reminder of responsibility; completes form for teacher assignments; maintains records. Enters data and prints lists for honor level program. Inputs demerit slips and discipline records into computer daily. Notifies teachers of students who are prohibited from participating in assemblies, dances and after-school activities. Prints out reward slips for top honor level students. Monitors students in lunchroom who have been assigned to lunch detention. May supervise students who are required to eat lunch in detention room. Other functions include assigning and maintaining lockers for students, supervising student behavior in hallways, maintaining orderly movement, collecting homework assignments and books for students who are absent from school due to illness or suspension, preparing, duplicating, collating and distributing materials, and operating a variety of office equipment. May serve on various district committees and/or departmental work teams. Models appropriate and cooperative behavior, including protecting confidential information, consistent with district ethical guidelines. Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.

Requirements

  • Experience working with at risk adolescents preferred
  • Experience maintaining detailed records and operating a personal computer preferred
  • Demonstrated skill in reading, writing and communicating.
  • Skill in effective behavior management techniques.
  • Ability to deal with students in a warm and confident manner.
  • Ability to remain flexible to changes in assignments.
  • Ability to organize activities.
  • Ability to follow and give instructions.
  • Ability to be fair and consistent when working with students.
  • Knowledge of student safety rules and procedures.
  • Knowledge of "at-risk" student behavior.
  • Ability to learn the use of computers and various software packages.
  • Ability to learn the operation of general office machines.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students and staff.
  • Requires fingerprinting and background check to determine that there have been no convictions involving physical molestation, abuse, injury or neglect of a minor.
  • Must complete training in and adhere to district infection control plan.
