About The Position

The primary responsibility of the In-House Substitute Teacher is to be a positive role model and provide classroom instruction to the students at Cristo Rey San Jose Jesuit High School. The In-House Substitute Teacher provides consistent daily coverage for absent teachers, ensuring instructional continuity. When not providing coverage in the classroom, the In-House Substitute Teacher provides additional student support as assigned. This position reports to the Director of Teacher and Learning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in the field related to teaching assignments
  • Broad knowledge and experience in the teaching field
  • Excellent skills in both oral and written communication
  • Ability to follow detailed lesson plans
  • Familiarity with Google, Google classroom, and PowerSchool or interest in learning
  • Classroom management skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and in a fast pace environment
  • Ability to keep confidential information
  • Energetic, flexible, and resourceful
  • Leadership and mentoring skills
  • Able to understand, care, love, and relate to the students
  • Required to use a work computer throughout the day
  • Returns phone calls and emails within 24 hours

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one or small group support to students in the classroom, under the supervision of the teacher
  • Assist in implementing student accommodation plans and other specialized learning strategies for students with disabilities or other learning needs
  • Support students with academic tasks, such as note-taking, reading, and completing assignments
  • Provide additional support during classroom activities, projects, and tests
  • Collaborate with teachers and other staff members to assess and track student progress
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding students’ personal and academic information
  • Monitor students’ behavior, ensuring they are engaged and following classroom rules to ensure maximum learning
  • Help in the implementation of classroom management strategies to maintain a productive and respectful classroom environment
  • Provide academic support or tutoring if necessary
  • Support teachers’ classroom expectations with measures of student accountability
  • Check the “sub needed dashboard [school year]” or your work email for lesson plans. Follow the teacher’s lesson plan carefully, including any seating charts.
  • Within the first 10 minutes of class, check the student roster located using the PowerSchool sub-account and submit attendance.
  • Check the student roster and confirm with students on preferred names.
  • If applicable, please make sure to attend the teachers’ supervising time and location.
  • Maintain discipline in the classroom to ensure maximum learning.
  • Hand out any notes or call slips if they are delivered to your classroom by a student worker, staff, or faculty member.
  • Do not send students during class time to drop off documents at the front office. The students may drop them off during breakfast, passing periods, lunch, or after school.
  • Make sure to walk around the class to monitor students' screens and ensure students safety.
  • Support and/or supervise students during breakfast, lunch, and after school
  • Attend staff meetings, professional development sessions, and other required school activities
