About The Position

The primary role of the assistant is to provide educational supportive services to all CTE students. This includes instructing individual students or small groups, assisting students with various needs, helping with assignments and test preparation, and providing support related to the CTE program. The role also involves operating equipment, administering career tests, and assisting with transitions to post-school employment and education. Support for CTSO events and other program-related duties as assigned are also part of the responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Ability to work with, relate to, and communicate with Career and Technical Education students, parents, teachers, academic counselors, and members of the business community.
  • Ability to demonstrate keyboarding skills, use MS Office software, complete computer-related tasks, and operate general office equipment.
  • Candidate must have the initiative and ability to work without direct supervision while using sound judgment when working with the CTE community.
  • Ability to keep and maintain records in a discrete, responsible, and professional manner.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • AA degree, 60 college credits from an accredited university, or satisfactory results on an Arizona state-approved competency exam (ParaPro)
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check and obtain a Fingerprint Clearance Card with an IVP number through the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

Responsibilities

  • Responding to all internal and external customers, as it relates to the job, in a prompt, efficient, friendly, and patient manner
  • Instructing, within close proximity to the teacher, individual students or small groups of students to reinforce material or skills initially introduced by the teacher
  • Assisting students with various physical, emotional and educational needs adhering to guidelines of student I.E.P
  • Help students with assignments to assure homework/projects are current.
  • Help students prepare for tests/exams.
  • Solicit input from the Special Education Department as needed to ensure appropriate services are rendered to handicapped students.
  • Identify and provide services based on district data available.
  • Operating and caring for equipment used for instructional purposes
  • Administer career tests, technical skills assessments, and disseminate career information as needed.
  • Provide help with academic skills related to the CTE program.
  • Use modified curriculum materials/methods as prescribed by supervising teachers.
  • Assist, as requested, in the transition from school to post-school employment and education.
  • Arrange for career counseling.
  • CTSO support services and chaperoning CTSO events with CTE administration approval.
  • Be physically able to sit, stand, squat at a desk for a period of time while working with students.
  • Other program-related duties as assigned/requested by the supervising instructor(s) or special populations’ coordinator.
