About The Position

The Affective Needs Paraeducator is responsible for providing support to students with emotional and behavioral challenges under the direction of a certified teacher. The role involves assisting in the implementation of educational and behavioral plans, fostering a safe and nurturing learning environment, and helping students develop the skills necessary to succeed academically and socially.

Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with affective needs.
  • Adapt classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives.
  • Provide one-on-one or small group support to students, focusing on emotional health, safety, and academic achievement.
  • Implement behavior intervention plans designed to manage and improve student behavior.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and families to support the student’s educational and emotional development.
  • Maintains classroom materials, equipment, and work areas for the purpose of maximizing student learning, provide a safe learning environment, and meet mandated requirements.
  • Model conversations, manners, active listening, organizational skills, and social behaviors for the purpose of aiding development of interpersonal skills and problem-solving strategies.
  • Monitor students individual and/or groups during assigned areas (e.g. classroom, playground, field trips, library, lunchroom, bus, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Monitor and report on student progress, including academic performance and behavior.
  • Assist with daily living skills and social integration as needed.
  • Participate in professional development and training related to affective needs and behavior management.
  • Respond to inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g. students, teachers, administrators, and/or parents, etc.) for the purpose of solving problems, providing information and/or directing to other appropriate parties.
