About The Position

The paraeducator in this position will give reading instruction to students in a small group intervention room and classroom. They will be responsible for carrying through prescribed instructional programs under the direct supervision and training of certificated staff using specific reading intervention curriculum. Other duties include adapting and making materials appropriate to instructional needs, maintaining accurate records, administering and scoring reading assessments, recess supervision, lunchroom supervision, and performing other paraeducator duties as assigned by the supervisor. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Requirements

Must have High School Diploma or equivalent.
Must have an AA degree OR 72 quarter college credits OR 48 semester college credits OR a passing score on the ETS test.
Must attach unofficial transcript proving AA or equivalent to application.
Official transcripts of all levels of education, including high school, required within 30 days of hire.
Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Must be able to meet the Physical Demands of the position.
Must pass a basic skills test.
Completion of Safe Schools Web Based Training within 30 days of hire and yearly thereafter.
Must pass a background check, which includes employee paid fingerprinting.
Must be able to assist with catheterization and tube feeding of student.
Required academic skills to assist students (i.e. knowledge in sciences, language arts, math, reading and social studies).
Must uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.
Must take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
Must attend in-service trainings or other meetings as required, as well as attend any training as directed by management.
Evidence of ability to assess and correct issues involving safety.
Evidence of ability to establish and maintain a tactful, cooperative and effective relationship with students, parents, staff, fellow employees and management.
Evidence of ability to approach assigned work in a professional manner, working toward the common goal of teamwork, pride in service delivery and continuous improvement.
Must demonstrate sufficient command of the English language to communicate verbally and in writing with students, parents, district staff members and other concerned people regarding all aspects of their job related activities.
Must be able to use basic computer programs to maintain records, enter timecard information and read and respond to email.
Must be willing to become first-aid certified if required.

Responsibilities

Give reading instruction to students in a small group intervention room and classroom.
Carry through prescribed instructional programs under the direct supervision and training of certificated staff using specific reading intervention curriculum.
Adapt and make materials appropriate to instructional needs.
Maintain accurate records.
Administer and score reading assessments.
Recess supervision.
Lunchroom supervision.
Perform other paraeducator duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Assist nurse with health needs of student, including catheterization and tube feeding.
Assist students with their educational needs, including assisting students in the regular classroom in reading and others areas as needed.
Instruct students as directed by the certificated staff.
Prepare instructional materials as requested.
Participate in staff and program in-services.
Carry out plans and activities for students as designed by the reading specialist and classroom teacher.
Work cooperatively with parents, staff and students.
Provide clerical assistance as needed.
Assist in providing supervision of students in order to provide a safe, orderly, positive learning environment.
Perform all duties of the position within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures, including regular attendance and punctuality.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
