This position is 0.8 FTE and is available for internal candidates for seven (7) days based on the collective bargaining agreement. The Para-Educator, Special Education assists a certificated teacher in providing instruction to individuals or small groups of students in an assigned educational program. They help children meet the goals and objectives of their Individualized Education Plan (IEP), attend to students' physical and health needs, and monitor and report student progress. This role also involves performing various clerical and supportive duties related to classroom activities and management. This position is distinguished by its primary responsibility for attendant physical duties, assisting with basic health needs, and supporting the creation and maintenance of engaging academic environments for students with disabilities. It can serve as a step towards professional development as an Instructional Support Specialist or a certificated position. Specialized skills are required for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Para-Educators (proficient communication using signing systems like ASL) and Visual Impairment Para-Educators (Braille reading, operating assistive equipment, and assisting students with mobility).
