About The Position

The Paper Machine Superintendent is responsible for managing the operations of the Paper Machine to ensure the manufacture of competitive quality paper grades. This role ensures compliance with company principles, guidelines, and government regulations, and develops and implements department operating plans to support the site's strategic direction.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • BSChE or BSME or equivalent combination of education and experience in lieu of degree.
  • 5-10 Years linerboard experience.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure department is operated in a safe and injury-free environment that is in compliance with OSHA and other regulations.
  • Develop and implement short (12 month) and long term (2-3 year) operating plans and capital spending recommendations to ensure department processes, employee capabilities and equipment can support site objectives.
  • Continually improve on “end-use” paper performance to ensure that the quality of product is meeting customer needs and wants by maintaining current understanding of customer expectations, communicating expectations to the operating departments and communicating operating issues and capabilities back to Sales & Marketing.
  • Ensure operational control of processes and systems throughout the operating department.
  • Optimize the uptime and productivity of operating departments while maintaining required quality at the lowest cost.
  • Manage department operations to meet production budgets at minimum cost while fully meeting customer specifications.
  • Ensure department compliance with all applicable environmental guidelines and regulations.
  • Ensure operating equipment is maintained in good operating condition, consistent at the lowest possible cost.
  • Maintain a positive and constructive relationship with the workforce.
  • Ensure management continuity and apply succession planning, effective coaching, mentoring and training to meet future workforce requirements.
  • Ensure continuous improvement in productivity, safety, costs, people development, housekeeping and quality while supporting the Hood Container Guiding Principles.
  • Work with the site management team to identify and implement mill initiatives.
  • Demonstrate teamwork with other managers.
  • Identify opportunities to develop or change mill policies.
  • Evolve the organization to better meet the needs of the business in areas outside of direct accountability.
  • Advise and/or recommend changes or opportunities, outside of direct area of accountability that will contribute to optimizing the short and long-term growth objectives of the mill.
