Temporary Panel Shop Technician
About The Position
This Temporary Panel Shop Technician role is based within Cross Company’s PSG UL 508A Panel Shop in Knoxville, TN. We build custom control panels for high end clients in the pharmaceutical, municipal water, and process industries. These are not assembly line builds. Every project is an engineer to order, a system that requires high attention to detail. Technicians work alongside other master level panel builders to the technical standards and professional expectations behind mission critical industrial systems. You will be involved in client interactions and may have exposure to customers during Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and other project review points.
Requirements
- Regular standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and reaching throughout the workday.
- Able to lift and carry up to 70 pounds and occasionally move heavier components with assistance or mechanical support.
- Requires fine motor skills for intricate wiring, tool use, and small component assembly.
- Ability to read detailed schematics and perform close visual work is essential.
- Comfortable working around electrical equipment in a manufacturing shop environment and occasionally climbing ladders or working at varying heights.
- Must be able to safely operate standard shop tools and equipment.
Responsibilities
- Read and build from custom electrical schematics with guidance from senior builders.
- Assist with physical panel layout, mounting components, wiring, and labeling.
- Learn the principles of industrial craftsmanship, including neatness and consistency.
- Support internal testing and verification to ensure the build meets design specs.
- Safely operate hand tools and shop equipment such as drills, saws, and grinders.
- Follow all PPE requirements and maintain risk awareness in a shop environment.
- Manage hardware and components to ensure an organized workflow.
- Follow UL 508A shop culture and quality standards.
- Use documented checklists to self check work and prevent rework.
- Communicate clearly with shop leadership regarding task readiness and parts availability.
- Collaborate across groups including engineering and project management.
- Support the Electrical Design Team as needed.
- Support Shipping and Receiving as needed.
- Maintain a ownership mentality and colaborative mindset.
