About The Position

As a General Production team member at Smithfield Foods, the Palletizer helps deliver safe, high-quality food by performing essential production tasks and supporting coworkers. The role contributes to a positive work environment, helps maintain a safe and efficient production line, and supports the delivery of food products to consumers. Production employees work with hand tools, knives, machinery, and other equipment to process meat products. The work can be physically demanding and requires good hand-eye coordination and attention to detail. Team members must work their scheduled shift and may be required to work overtime depending on production demands. The position requires applicants to be at least 18 years of age. Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must be willing and able to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Must be able to perform continuous or repetitive movements, including grasping, pinching, and flexing and extending the arms.
• Must be able to stand on concrete and/or platforms for up to a 12-hour shift.
• Must be willing and able to work around animal blood and/or carcass parts.
• Must be willing and able to work with a knife if trained.
• Must be able to work in cold areas of approximately 20–40 degrees and/or warm areas over 100 degrees, and in wet and humid conditions.
• Must be able to wear a hard hat, hearing and eye protection, and steel-toed safety shoes, and work in a noisy environment using personal protective equipment.
• Must be willing and able to work with sanitation and cleaning chemicals and around strong smells or odors.
• Must be able to climb and move on ladders, steps, stairways, walkways, and platforms; bend, stoop, and twist repetitively; and walk long distances.
• Some positions may require certification to operate equipment.
• Some positions may require repetitive overhead lifting up to 30 lbs, single lifting of objects up to 60 lbs, or lifting with mechanical assistance.
• Good hand-eye coordination and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Perform production tasks using hand tools, knives, machinery, and other equipment to process meat products.
• Support coworkers and help maintain a safe, efficient production line.
• Follow oral and written instructions.
• Work the scheduled shift and, when production demands require, overtime.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
