About The Position

The Painter applies decorative and protective coatings to interior and exterior surfaces, including painting, staining, enameling, varnishing, lacquering, and redecorating. The role includes preparing and matching paint, applying coatings with a range of tools, removing old finishes, and performing minor surface repairs. The Painter may also replace door or window glass, requisition supplies and equipment, and participate in special projects as required. The position is onsite in Norfolk, Virginia, with a 40-hour scheduled workweek and less than 10% travel required.

Requirements

At least 1 year of related experience; the posting also specifies 1–3 years of related painting experience.
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work experience.
U.S. citizenship required.

Nice To Haves

Preferred experience in marine painting and lagging in accordance with NAVSEA Standard Item 009-11, Insulation and Lagging.

Responsibilities

Paint, stain, enamel, varnish, lacquer, and redecorate interior and exterior surfaces.
Mix paint and match colors to achieve the desired color.
Apply paint or other coatings using cloths, brushes, sprayers, rollers, and/or sponges.
Remove old finishes using scrapers, chemical compounds, or a blowtorch.
Fill nail holes, joints, and cracks in walls with plaster or other filler, as needed.
Replace door or window glass, as needed.
Requisition painting supplies and equipment.
Participate in special projects as required.
