About The Position

Perform a variety of painting activities involved in the refurbishing of galleries, exhibit cases and fixtures, public areas, offices, office furniture, counters, work surfaces, and the maintenance of exterior painted surfaces of the museum. Perform work from job orders and written or oral instructions according to schedule or as directed, using tools, equipment, and materials of trade. Report to Construction Shop Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Must have 3 years’ experience
  • Able to lift weights up to 50 pounds
  • Able to tape to a level five finish
  • Process demonstrated experience with Scissor lifts

  • Preferred experience working in a Museum setting or similar setting

Responsibilities

  • Check surfaces to be painted—clean walls, smudges, fingerprints, etc., using solutions.
  • Clean pedestals.
  • Spackle holes, and cracks in plaster.
  • Tape, dress, and sand dry wall and display apparatus surface.
  • Place and remove drop cloths.
  • Erect or assist in erecting, dismantling, removing, and storing of staging.
  • Scrape and remove extraneous materials from walls, surfaces, etc.
  • Move furniture, equipment, objects, and replace as required in the performance of duties.
  • Protect surrounding areas as necessary.
  • Clean paint brushes, rollers; empty containers and keep working areas and shop in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Paint galleries, exhibit cases, pedestals, offices, and public areas.
  • Paint floors, paint exterior painted surfaces of buildings, apparatuses, and sign backgrounds.
  • Strip, sand, stain, paint, seal, and rub as required to finish or refinish a variety of office furniture, counters, working surfaces, etc.
  • Move materials as directed.
  • Detect and report improper operation, faulty equipment, defective materials and unusual conditions to proper supervision.
  • Follow prescribed safety rules and regulations.
  • Attend all required safety training sessions.
