About The Position

Federal Signal Corporation is seeking a Painter for their 2nd shift operations. This role involves performing automotive-type spray painting and powder coating processes according to company quality and production standards. The Painter will be responsible for preparing parts and surfaces, masking, applying various paint and primer systems, and ensuring the quality of the finished product. This is a full-time position operating in a shop environment with frequent exposure to heat.

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds throughout the day
  • Must be able to stand and walk for an ten hour shift
  • Must be willing and able to wear Personal Protective Equipment
  • Must be able to operate in a heavy deadline environment.
  • Must be self-motivated with abilities to work independently and collaboratively with team members.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Must be fluent in English

Responsibilities

  • Performs automotive-type painting spray methods.
  • Perform automotive-type spray painting and powder coating processes according to company quality and production standards.
  • Prepare parts and surfaces for painting or powder coating by removing grease, dirt, rust, old paint, and other contaminants using approved abrasives, solvents, brushes, and cleaning methods.
  • Prepare work areas and equipment for painting and powder coating operations.
  • Mask areas of parts as required to protect surfaces from paint or powder coating and ensure proper coverage and finish.
  • Apply two-part primer systems according to manufacturer specifications and established company procedures.
  • Prepare and apply four-part paint systems consisting of paint, hardener, activator, and thinner, using the correct ratios and application procedures.
  • Order or request paint in the required colors according to production specifications.
  • Apply primer and paint using HVLP (High Volume Low Pressure) spray guns and other appropriate equipment.
  • Adjust and maintain HVLP spray guns to achieve proper atomization, coverage, and finish quality.
  • Perform spot painting, touch-ups, and color matching to ensure repaired or painted areas properly match the required finish.
  • Inspect painted parts for proper coverage, color, texture, adhesion, and overall finish. Identify defects and make necessary corrections.
  • Properly hang, organize, and stage parts on designated racks according to color and production requirements to prevent color mix-ups and maintain an efficient workflow.
  • Operate and maintain spray guns, painting equipment, powder-coating equipment, and related tools.
  • Perform powder coating operations, including part preparation, masking, powder application, and curing according to established specifications.
  • Prepare and operate powder-coating ovens, ensuring proper curing temperatures and cycle times are maintained.
  • Inspect powder-coated parts for proper coverage, adhesion, color, texture, and finish, and correct defects as necessary.
  • Clean and maintain powder-coating equipment, spray guns, booths, racks, and work areas to prevent contamination and maintain consistent finish quality.
  • Operate and maintain spray booth filtration systems to control paint fumes and airborne contaminants and help maintain a safe warehouse environment.
  • Follow proper procedures for handling, storing, and disposing of paint, solvents, powder, and other hazardous materials and waste.
  • Estimate the time required to complete assigned painting, powder-coating, and repair work.
  • Coordinate painting and powder-coating activities with production requirements to ensure parts are completed and available when needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area and follow all company safety procedures and applicable environmental requirements.
  • Perform other duties as needed to meet production requirements.
