About The Position

NYC Parks is the steward of more than 30,000 acres of land – 14 percent of New York City – including more than 5,000 individual properties ranging from Coney Island Beach and Central Park to community gardens and Greenstreets. We operate more than 800 athletic fields and nearly 1,000 playgrounds, 1,800 basketball courts, 550 tennis courts, 65 public pools, 51 recreational facilities, 15 nature centers, 14 golf courses and 14 miles of beaches. We care for 1,200 monuments and 23 historic house museums. We look after 660,000 street trees, and five million more in parks. Requirements

Five years of full-time satisfactory experience as a painter acquired within the last fifteen years; or
At least three years of full-time satisfactory experience as a painter acquired within the last fifteen years and sufficient full-time satisfactory apprentice painter experience to make up a total of five years of acceptable experience. Six months of acceptable experience will be credited for each year of apprentice painter experience.

Responsibilities

Under supervision, perform inside and outside patching and painting of a general nature, including all coats.
Prepare, fill and prime surfaces for painting, including public restrooms, recreation centers, play equipment, pools, historic houses, fencing, benches and handball court walls.
Plaster, patch, sand and tape surfaces as necessary.
Erect and use ladders, platforms and scaffolding.
Mix paint components, match colors and utilize brush, roller and spray gun tools.
Safeguard Parks & Recreation property, tools and equipment.
Maintain accurate records and produce reports pertaining to assigned tasks.
Interact with staff and the public in a courteous and professional manner.
