About The Position

Performs spray painting functions to a variety of sheet metal parts, castings, machine parts, and sub-assemblies. Responsibilities also include paint prep such as washing or other general preparation of parts and materials.

Requirements

  • Previous experience with paint and/or powder coating is strongly desired.
  • Good understanding of blueprint reading.
  • Excellent math skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Usually stands 7-8 hours per day.
  • Required to wear an air respirator while painting.
  • Frequently lifts between 25 – 60 lbs (40-70% of normal workday) from floor level to shoulder level.
  • Must be capable of close, distant, and color vision and have good depth perception.
  • Must reach, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl.
  • Be able to read part numbers and directions provided on a worksheet.
  • Must be reliable and willing to work overtime when required.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous application of lean manufacturing and structured problem-solving tools is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Receives verbal instructions or printed work orders from Production Supervisor.
  • Operates wash tanks, hand wand power wash system, automated and/or manual trolley system, lift tables, overhead hoist, and fork trucks.
  • Responsible for the proper hanging of all parts utilizing proper gauge hooks and reasonable methods on the automated and manual trolleys.
  • Involved in powder coat operations.
  • Mixes paint according to instructions on product technical sheets.
  • Pours paint and/or powder paint into large containers and uses a hand-held mixer.
  • Mixes standard "Hartzell blue" paint or primer with a 55-gallon drum mixer.
  • Moves parts from wash tanks or hand wand wash and preps for painting.
  • Determines whether to use a solvent or water-based pump to run paint through.
  • Moves parts into drying room and utilizes lift table, overhead hoist, or tow motor to safely remove parts from conveyor lines when fully dry.
  • Removes parts from paint area when required and moves them to the assembly area.
  • Fills in for paint-prep person or in the sand blast area as needed.
  • Cleans up painting equipment daily, flushes paint lines with water or solvent as required by the manufacturer, and disposes of waste in proper containers as required by the Safety Manager.
  • Follows a regular cleaning schedule.
  • Provides regularly scheduled maintenance to paint and blast equipment as required to ensure maximum operation efficiency.
  • Supports Hartzell Culture initiatives and displays and portrays Hartzell Values.
  • Supports the company’s lean initiatives and assists in Lean projects as required.
  • Follows all safety practices and rules.
  • Maintains a clean and safe working environment in line with company policies.
  • Supports other departments or completes other duties as necessary.
